Austrian Pine (Pinus Nigra)

This Austrian Pine evergreen tree is grown at Wahmhoff Farms Nursery in Southwest Michigan.
The Austrian Pine is densely branched with a broad pyramidal shape when young that matures to a height of 60 feet. Known for its long, stiff needles and dark green color, the Austrian Pine is widely used as a screen/windbreak and is resistant to road salt damage. A very hardy tree, the Austrian Pine tolerates a wide range of soils, and grows in acidic, alkaline, loamy, moist, sandy, well-drained, and clay soils, and does well in heat and drought. Austrian Pine has thrived for over 200 years in some of the worst soil and climate conditions America has to offer. Does best in full sun.

Grows to 60'; mature spread of 20' - 40'.

This Balsam Fir evergreen tree is grown at Wahmhoff Farms Nursery in Southwest Michigan.
A soft, waxy, deep green, aromatic fir tree that enjoys sun and likes cool, moist, well-drained soil conditions as a landscape tree. The root system is shallow and spreading, which makes it only moderately wind firm. It adapts to a wide variety of sites ranging from swamps to high rocky mountainsides, but Balsam Fir grows best in cold climates with well-drained, acid, moist soil. Balsam Fir does well in full sun/partial shade. It handles shade better than other fir varieties, but does not tolerate pollution well.

Grows to 45' - 75'; mature spread of 20' - 25'.

This Black Hills Spruce evergreen tree is grown at Wahmhoff Farms Nursery in Southwest Michigan.
The Black Hills Spruce grows best in acidic, moist loams with full sun, but is adaptable to a variety of conditions such as shade, drought, heat and cold. It is flood intolerant and is sensitive to soil compaction. Black Hills Spruce is very similar in appearance to White Spruce, with dark green to bluish needles, but this tree tends to be a slower-growing tree, maintaining that "youthful image" for years! It is popular as a landscape tree.

Grows to a mature height of 30' - 60'; spread of 15' - 25'.

This Canaan Fir evergreen tree is grown at Wahmhoff Farms Nursery in Southwest Michigan.
A true fir genetically intermediate between Balsam and Fraser, the Canaan is highly adaptable to many soil conditions, including both wetter soil and drought, shaded areas or direct sunlight: this is one tough tree! Late bud break and adaptability to a variety of soils makes it an excellent landscape tree. It has short, soft needles that tend to be medium to dark green on the top, and silverish-blue on the underside.

Grows to a height of 40'-55'; mature spread of 20' - 30'.

The Colorado Blue Spruce is known for its attractive bluish foliage, pyramidal shape and strong branches, and is a favorite among landscapers. Prefers moist loam or clay soils, will grow on well-drained soils where water is present close to the surface. Somewhat slow growing. Used for windbreaks, landscaping & wildlife cover.

This Douglas Fir evergreen tree is grown at Wahmhoff Farms Nursery in Southwest Michigan.
This is an excellent species with a distinct citrus aroma, soft, medium length needles with a green to blue-green color. Douglas Fir is naturally deer resistant, seldom damaged severely. It grows best in soils with good air flow and water drainage; prefers full sun. The Douglas Fir is a very hardy landscape tree, good for windbreaks and snow fences.

This Fraser Fir evergreen tree is grown at Wahmhoff Farms Nursery in Southwest Michigan.
A true fir, the Fraser Fir is closely related to Balsam Fir, and is known for its dark green needles and silvery undersides. This tree is widely used as a landscape tree, and grows best in cool, moist, well-drained soil conditions; requires plenty of water. Stiff branches with soft needles.

This Korean Fir evergreen tree is grown at Wahmhoff Farms Nursery in Southwest Michigan.
 The Korean Fir looks very similar to the Fraser Fir. More heat tolerant than most firs; doesn't do well in compacted soil or air pollution; has a shallow root system and grows more slowly than other firs. Grows best in full sun with moist, well drained soil; is wind tolerant. It has dark green, short needles, densely arranged above the shoot and spread tightly beneath, and the undersides of the needles have two white bands or are all white - a very flashy tree with great landscape potential!

This Norway Spruce evergreen tree is grown at Wahmhoff Farms Nursery in Southwest Michigan.
The Norway Spruce is a majestic, dark green evergreen with a conical shape and draping branches. It is the fastest growing of the spruce varieties, and has short, dark green needles. It will grow reasonably well in shaded conditions, but does great in direct sunlight. This tree is often used by the landscape industry in wind-row projects or privacy fences. Has reddish-tinged bark. Used for reforestation, windbreaks and wildlife plantings. It is a tough tree that grows well in most conditions, and makes a beautiful and majestic landscape tree.
