About Us

Wahmhoff Family

Wahmhoff Farms Nursery is a family-owned and operated Christmas Tree Farm in Southwest Michigan. We have been growing and selling quality Christmas trees for 70+ years. Our family business originated in Grand Junction but transitioned to Gobles, which is where we are now located. We are known throughout the industry for producing high quality trees and wreaths. We have won several state competitions, providing us the honor of presenting Christmas trees and wreaths to the Governor of Michigan over the years, and in 2011 we won Reserve Grand Champion at the National Christmas Tree Association, giving us the honor of supplying the Christmas tree to the Vice President of the United States and his family.

The first trees were planted and harvested in the 1950s by Carl Wahmhoff Sr and Carl Wahmhoff Jr, the grandfather and father of the present owners, Dan and Ken Wahmhoff, who bought the farm from their father in 1996, making this a third generation family business. Dan’s and Ken’s sister Betsy, along with Dan’s wife Lorie, and brother Tom work full time in the business. Fourth generation children have already worked on the farm as well. We have been retailing Christmas trees in the Kalamazoo area since 1962. There are now several generations of families continuing the Family Tradition of a trip to Wahmhoff Farms to select their perfect Christmas tree for the holidays.

Wahmhoff Farms Nursery employs about 20 full-time people year ‘round and about 60-80 seasonal workers.

We have several retail locations for Christmas trees and wreaths in the Kalamazoo/Portage area, and our Choose-N-Cut farm is just 15 miles west of Kalamazoo, 1 mile south of Gobles on M-40 Hwy.

Our 150-acre Choose-N-Cut is open 7 days a week from the day after Thanksgiving until just before Christmas. We have free popcorn and tractor-drawn wagon rides every weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and free horse-drawn wagon rides and Santa Claus during the first two weekends after Thanksgiving.

We provide shaking, baling and loading trees for our customers on all of our retail lots. We display our pre-cut trees in an upright position using the Answer Stand Display System – it’s like walking through a field of Christmas trees! Other services include free coloring books for the children, a free KLING card Christmas tree preservative, and a chance to win $500.

We manufacture and sell the Answer Stand Christmas Tree stand and the Answer Stand Display System. Customers can stand their Christmas tree straight in less than 10 seconds using our stand! Our Answer Stand has been called a “Marriage-Saver” by many of our smiling, return customers!

Our selection of Christmas trees includes Fraser Fir, Canaan Fir, Concolor Fir, Colorado Blue Spruce, White Spruce, Norway Spruce, Serbian Spruce, Black Hills Spruce, Scotch Pine and White Pine.

We have an extensive Professional Growers/Retailers Supply Catalog business.

We ship seedlings and transplants all over the United States and to Canada.

We dig 4’-16’+ Balled & Burlapped trees for our landscaping customers. We ship in both the Spring and the Fall, primarily in the Midwest but also to the East Coast and as far west as Colorado.

During Christmas Tree harvest, trees are loaded onto semi-trucks, 500-1000 per truckload, and shipped all across the country.

We hand-make all of our Christmas wreaths and garlands from fresh bough material harvested from our own fields. We produce miles of garland and thousands of wreaths for retail and wholesale customers and for fundraising groups.

During Christmas Tree harvest, we can harvest between 5,000 and 10,000 trees in a single day! We are very active in the National Christmas Tree Association (NCTA) and the Michigan Christmas Tree Association (MCTA). We are members of the Mid-America Christmas Tree Association (MACT), the Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association (MNLA), and the Michigan Seedling Growers Association (MSGA). We attend other states’ Christmas Tree Association functions when possible, including Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and New York. Dan’s experience includes being a past president of the MCTA as well as board member of the Mid-America Christmas Tree Association (MACT) and the MSGA.

Dan and Ken are always willing to answer questions you may have regarding any of the supplies we offer, as well as to assist you in your Christmas tree production and retail endeavors. Betsy and Jill are available to help you with your ordering needs. Let our 70 plus years of experience help you!
